Boston Kendo Kyokai survives another hatsu-geiko. We performed our customary 2000 suburi and followed that up with 30 minutes of intense ji-geiko.

Visiting senseis for this year seminar will be Hiro Inoue Sensei from Vancouver Canada and Wout Verschueren Sensei from Melsbroek Begium.

Hiro Inoue Sensei holds a rokudan (6th dan) in Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu. He is the vice president of the Canada Iaido Association and has been teaching Iaido at the University of British Columbia for 23 years. Please visit Hiro Sensei’s Dojo Website.

11th Goyokai Kendo Tournament

The Boston Shufukai will be hosting their 11th Goyokai Kendo Tournament. The event will be held on Saturday, November 6 and Sunday, November 7, 2010. The registration deadline is October 18, 2010.

AEUSKF Promotion Examination

The All Eeasterm US Kendo Federation will be conducting a promotion test on Sunday, October 24th 2010 at Kenzen Dojo for all grades through 4 dan. This promotion test is for AEUSKF 2010 members only and candidates must show proof of current rank.

The deadline for application is October 2, 2010. An application fee of $35 will be required. Applications received after the deadline will be $100. Please make checks payable to AEUSKF. Registration desk opens at 1 PM and the test starts at 2 PM.

Annual Archdale Back To School Drive

Each year Boston Kendo Kyokai donates back to school kits for the kids at the Archdale Community Center. Please help by donating any amount you can afford. You can donate by cash, check (payable to Boston Kendo) or use the PayPal “Donate” button on the BKK Home Page. The last couple of years we’ve donated 10 kits (notebooks, pens, pencils, eraser, etc.). We’d like to increase that to 15 kits this year. Arigato!

Godo Geiko at Shufukai Dojo

On the weekend of August 21-22 Boston Shufukai dojo will be hosting a special godo geiko with visiting members of the Garden State Kendo Alliance. On Saturday August 21 at 7 pm an advanced practice will be held (yudansha only). On Sunday Shufukai’s normal practice time will be changed to 2 pm so everyone will have opportunity to practice.

On Sunday July 25, 2010 the All Eastern United States Kendo Federation held a kendo shinsa at the Boston Shufukai Dojo in Randolph, Massachusetts. Over 40 candidates placed themselves up for promotion from kyu through yondan. Following the shinsa was an excellent godo geiko. Congratulations to all who advanced in grade.

Boston Kendo Kyokai 30th Anniversary Tournament

BKK celebrated its 30th anniversary by hosting a kendo tournament on Sunday, May 2, 2010. Over 150 competitors from across the U.S. and Canada participated in an exciting and highly competitve tournament. Congratulations to all who demonstrated outstanding kendo spirit and thanks to everyone who helped make this a successful event! Arigato!

A special congratulations to Mr. Nelson Sigelman of Martha’s Vinyard who was the recipient of the inaugural Jack Thayer Award for Outstanding Contribution to Kendo in Massachusetts. Mr. Sigelman, along with Jack Thayer, was the founder of the Boston Kendo Club, the first kendo dojo in Massachusetts.
